subject: The Samsung Galaxy S2 And The Zte Era-an Introduction To Design [print this page] When the Samsung Galaxy S2 was launched in 2011 it was one of the very first dual core smartphones to be released. Consumers were very keen to get their hands on what was the most advanced handset available and as a result the model went on to achieve record breaking sales. Nearly 12 months on the phone still compares favourably with many of the newer devices that are being released. We see how the new ZTE Era, a new quad core device, compares with the S2 for design and screen technology.
Despite approaching its first birthday the Samsung Galaxy S2 is still one of the slimmest devices on the market. The handset measures just 8.5mm in depth and weighs just 116 grammes. This slim profile and light weight makes the phone feel very nice in the palm of your hand and the textured back panel also helps the S2 to feel like one of the most comfortable phones you well ever use. The model sports a very angular design which is a nice change from many of the more curved devices like the HTC One S that are currently available. The ZTE Era is very similar to the Galaxy S2 in terms of design. The model is actually the slimmer of the two handsets at just 7.8mm. The corners of the chassis are gently curved and the lack of physical buttons on the front of the phone give the model a very stylish and minimalist appearance. There is little to choose between the two handsets in terms of design, both models are incredibly slim and catch the eye when compared to many modern phones that are available.
Although these two handsets are very evenly matched in terms of design the Samsung Galaxy S2 eclipses its rival when it comes to screen technology. The phone uses Super AMOLED screen technology which is very power efficient and also delivers unrivaled viewing angles. In terms of resolution the handset can display 800 x 480 pixels on the 4.3 inch screen which equates to a pixel density of 217PPI. Over 16 million colours can be displayed and the Gorilla Glass material that is used in the screen construction is much more durable than more traditional glass displays. The ZTE Era uses the same size of screen but with a higher resolution of 540 x 960 that produces a superior pixel density of 256 pixels per inch. Just like the S2 over 16 million colours can be shown on this multi touch display. Despite this slight increase in quality we find that the Galaxy S2 still delivers the superior picture quality thanks to the impressive Super AMOLED technology that it uses.
The ZTE Era is certainly an impressive new handset but the Samsung Galaxy S2 still proves more than a match for it despite being nearly one year old. Both models offer attractive design while the Samsung outshines its rival for image quality thanks to the superior screen that it uses.
