subject: The Best Spring Walks In The North Of England [print this page] It may be spring a bit later in the north of England compared to milder south but we still have some wonderful places to visit that are particularly stunning in the springtime. As it can still tend to be brisk, wet and windy at this time of year as we transition out of the winter months, you will need to be prudent about equipping yourself in the best hiking gear for the route you are planning to undertake.
Of course one could not recommend a premium walk in the north of England without including the Lake District. The Lakes are situated just north of Manchester and reach all the way up to Carlisle and the Scottish borders in the west of England. There are literally hundreds of well signposted and maintained walks in the Lakes and of course most of these are recommended at any time of year. We would however like to particularly point out the Fleetwith Pike at this blossoming time of year. This walk can be found at Buttermere, one of the smaller lakes that does take its name from its dairy related historic background. The walk up to the pike is not the easiest of routes as it is quite rugged and steep climbs are involved. So if you want a more challenging walk this is the one for you, and of course you will be rewarded with wonderful views of the lake of Buttermere and more once you reach the pike. There is also the quaint village of Buttermere to explore and enjoy a well-deserved refreshment or meal.
The Yorkshire Dales is another large national park in the North with many walking routes and sites to be seen. The Norber Erratics is definitely a must see in this part of the country. Here you can take in some of the most beautiful Yorkshire hills and valleys. This 6 mile walk is named such because of some strangely positioned boulders that we said to date back to the ice age, hence the name The Erratics'. You can begin this varied walk from the village of Austwick and whilst coming across the Norber Erratics you will also be treated to limestone crags, ravines and one the dale's most spectacular caves. And rest assured there will be many lovely tearooms and pubs that offer the perfect fuel and rest after this exciting walk.
So, just starting with these wonderful national park areas of the north of England, you can see there are plenty of lovely spring walks to enjoy. In the right hiking gear you can indulge in the beauty and wonder of the nature we are so lucky to have here up north.
