subject: Tony Bennett 2012 Tour Of Australia [print this page] Tony Bennetts career has spanned nearly 7 decades. He has spawned 30 chart-topping singles, and has just about covered the entire gamut of popularity tiers. Though Tony Bennetts home is the United States, he is no stranger to Australia. His recent 2012 Australian tour covers the month of April, and spans the most pivotal and pioneering regions of Australia.
2012 Australia Tony Bennett tour:
April 4: Regent Theatre
April 7: Brisbane Convention and Exhibition
April 9: Sydney Opera House
April 11: Sydney Opera House
April 12: Sydney Opera House
April 16: Jupiter Hotel and Casino Theatre
The tour is in support of Bennetts 2012 release, Duets II, the follow-up to his bestseller Duets: An American Classic. Duets II features some highly regarded vocal performances. Some of the most fascinating are This is All I Ask with Josh Groban, How Do You Keep the Music Playing with Aretha Franklin, and appropriately in tune with Bennetts modern sensibility, his duet with Lady Gaga for opening track The Lady is a Tramp. The tour is expected to cover a lot of the Duets material from both volumes, and may have some guest vocalist appear onstage alongside Bennett, though none have been confirmed thus far.
Bennett, being 85 years old, began as a pop crooner similar to Frank Sinatra who was, interestingly, just leaving the Columbia label around the time Bennett was signed. He went through wild success, but was devastated by the rise of rock n roll and the quick sweeping decline of traditional pop crooners. Yet Bennett strived through the next few decades with personal turmoils and poor record sales, only to resurge in the late 80s to a whole new generation who began moving away from the rock n roll staples to older more traditional pop pioneers.
Tony Bennett remains a classic legendary name in music, and is still releasing material all these decades into his career. He has no plans on retiring, and though only a few Australian dates are up now, we can be confident well come back soon enough.
Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com but please note unfortunately the show on April 14 at Tempus Two Winery has been cancelled.
