subject: Beauty And Fresh Air On The Southern Tip Of Vietnam [print this page]

Authorities of the southern province of Ca Mau coordinate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and other agencies, the registration procedures to include the National Park Mui Ca Mau in the Ramsar list.

The park is located in the municipality of t Mui Ngoc Hien district, Ca Mau province, in the region of the Delta of the Mekong River just at the southern tip of Vietnam. This site covers around 41 000 800 hectares and acquired the National Park status in 2003 for his role in the protection of biodiversity and the ecosystem. In 2009, UNESCO included this park in its list of the biosphere reserve.

Today, dozens of speedboats transport daily passengers from the pier of Ca Mau to the last point of the country. Tourists will perceive the beauty of this setting, with rustic houses along the river, in a 3 hours traveling in fast launches, through 100 kilometers of intertwined canals.

To fully enjoy Vietnam holidays at Dat Mui, some tourists prefer not to sleep, in order to watch the headlights of fishermen in the squid season, drinking a few glasses of brandy, and savoring local specialties. All this can be done while listening to traditional melodies improvised by locals.

Each year, the area of this park is naturally extended to the sea with dozens of meters. This immense marsh offers a very diverse flora and fauna, with rare and precious species. Its mangroves and other salt water plants form a resistant wall against waves, storms and erosion.

The Mui Ca Mau National Park satisfies the criteria of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands concerning biodiversity, ecological, culture and history values. The Convention on Wetlands, signed in the Iranian city of Ramsar in 1971, is an intergovernmental treaty that implements national actions and international cooperation to conserve and rationally exploit the resources of these landforms.

Once elected to integrate that convention, the town will explode their potentials including ecological tourism and international cooperation. Currently, the country has already registered four zones in the reserve system: the mouth of the Xuan Thuy National Park and Tram Chim, the Bau Sau wetland in Cat Tien National Park and Lake Ba Be in the provinces of Nam Dinh, Dong Thap, Dong Nai and Bac Kan, respectively. Vietnam was the country number 50 in ratifying the Ramsar Convention and the first to implement it in Southeast Asia.
