subject: The Different Types Of Sushi [print this page]

When it comes to Japanese food, nothing stands out as much as sushi does. Unfortunately, very few people are aware that there are different types of sushi, each one featuring different ingredients and are prepared in different ways.

Of all the different types of sushi, it is the Maki that is considered to be the most popular. This type of sushi features fish or any seafood wrapped in Nori seaweed. There are two kinds of Maki sushi, the Futomaki and the Hosomaki. The Futomaki is bigger and is made up of two or more different fillings. The latter, on the other hand, is made up of fish or seafood plus one vegetable. Nigiri sushi is the next most common type of sushi. It is shaped by hand and is made up of a thin slice of raw fish, sea food, and tamago, among others, placed on top of Japanese rice.

Inside-out sushi is also a common type of sushi. Although prepared in the same way as a Maki sushi, the inside-out sushi or Uramaki has the rice wrapping the Nori seaweed instead of the other way around. It usually has two or more fillings and is often topped by a fish, seaweed or avocado.

Other types of sushi that you will find in sushi Weston restaurants include the California roll, or more commonly known as the California Maki; the Dragon roll sushi, and the spicy tuna sushi. The California Maki is the western version of an inside-out role. Its popularity stems from the fact that it is made of imitation crab sticks and avocado topped with Tobiko instead of real raw fish or seafood. This makes it seem to be more risk-free.

What sets the Dragon roll sushi that a number of Weston sushi restaurants offer apart from other types of sushi is that it is made from tempura fried shrimps, avocado and asparagus wrapped in fresh fried eel with avocado. It is commonly shaped like a dragon, hence the name. On the other hand, spicy tuna sushi is made from a large raw piece of tuna combined with avocado and cucumber. Its spiciness comes from the special sauce added to the fillings and sprinkled on top of the roll.

If you want to make your own sushi, there are online sites that could help you. However, the fastest way is still to visit your local Weston sushi restaurant.
