subject: The Role Of Local Youth Sports In The Lives Of Young People [print this page]

There are a lot of different events that can shape and mold your childs life, but none are quite as memorable as participating in a local youth sports league. Playing sports is an essential part of being a kid and has tons of excellent benefits for the children who participate. One of the biggest benefits is of course the physical exercise. Your kids will get plenty of physical activity and will be able to feel healthy and happy. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

One of the roles that local youth sports participation can play in the life of your child is to help them develop long lasting social relationships. Many parents allow their children to play on sports teams as a means of meeting new kids their own age and building friendships. Children who participate in sports together often become long term friends who grow up together. Being part of a team teaches a child how to share and make sacrifices for others. This helps them to think in terms of the collective good of the team rather than just simply seeking ways to further themselves or their own desires, though this is important also. Many of the friendships created through these sports leagues continue on through adulthood.

Another role that local youth sports teams can play in your childs life is to help them find positive role models. One of the most obvious role models that children will begin to admire when playing on sports teams is the coach. A good coach will help boost your childrens confidence and will help them learn the skills of the sport and spread a passion for the sport to them as well. Coaches are often looked up to as a source of wisdom and advice by young men who need a strong role model. While the parents should always be the most important role models, it is critical to surround your kids with people who will instill solid values that line up with your own into their lives.

Local youth sports teams can also play a critical role in the success your child experiences later on in life. Many of the skills and principles learned on the field or court can be carried over into the real world as well. Your kids will have learned the importance of teamwork, being on time, and doing your best, which can help them succeed in college or in the workforce.
