subject: Modern Mole Removal Practices [print this page]

The sight of moles can sometimes be quite unpleasant. Moles become doubly annoying if they are located on the face, quite large, and of the raised variety. In many of the mole removal techniques, anesthesia will be given, so that you do not feel pain in the area, where operation is done. Some numbing will occur courtesy of local anesthesia. It becomes easier to perform the operation.

There will most definitely be a twinge of pain, but nothing that can't be tolerated. Some physicians prescribe pain killers that you can take. No anesthetics are used when the procedure being performed is laser therapy. Everything that happens on the mole and your entire surroundings will be felt by you. Doctors will be speaking and you can hear it. You will be clearly seeing the part of the skin that is being operated. You will be awake all throughout the operation. There is a certain thrill that can be had from participating in these operations. When it comes to dealing with moles that are flat on the skin, this is the most preferred option.

Laser therapy is also effective in removing moles that have been present since birth. Moles that you are sure have not undergone any changes in color, size or shape can be treated using the laser method. Moles that are embedded deeply on the skin can't be removed by this method. If you insist on using this method, you may remove some part of it, but not completely. The moles could very well appear on the same area where it used to be. It will be a complete waste of your time and energy, not to mention your money.

The laser treatment seals blood vessels using heat. You might feel some stinging but do not worry because it is nothing you can't handle. You will have lesser bleeding in this treatment, unlike other methods. In other mole removal methods, you will be required to wait for a longer healing period after stitching has been performed. You won't have to deal with stitches when you choose laser treatment. There will also be a quicker healing period.

Cryotherapy requires the use of cold temperature which, incidentally, can harm your skin. In the same fashion, the skin cells could be exposed to damage when applied to the heat treatment in laser therapy. Laser light therefore is designed to target only the skin cells on the moles. The area with normal skin cells around the mole will be unscathed. Though this treatment is a little costly compared to the mole removal creams or natural remedies, it is still performed by many doctors.

The market is overflowing with various types of mole removal creams. Most of them are chemically tested and FDA approved. Allergic reactions to certain ingredients should warn you off these creams. When the moles are large or if they are deeply rooted, creams will not be of any use. They aren't powerful enough to reach the deeper layers of the skin where the mole cells are located. If the moles are shallow, the creams are used.
