subject: The Condo Or The House? [print this page]

Many people who are in the market for a new home will find conflicts facing them at every decision they need to make during the process. This includes small choices like which amenities you want to be located near, to larger decisions such as how many bedrooms you require in a home. Whether you have already entered the housing market, or are looking to buy a home for the first time, an important decision that faces many homebuyers in todays economic landscape is the decision to purchase a house or a condominium.

There are numerous reasons why any individual might have a preference to owning either a condo or a house. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. People who have a family that is at least medium sized, and those expecting to have a family in the near future may prefer to own a house over a condo. Similarly, those who do not currently have children or only one or two young ones may find that condo living in a residential part of town works out perfectly for their family.

The popularity of condos has risen in recent years. They have become the first and only option for a diverse range of homebuyers in recent years. One major factor that adds to their appeal is the fact that they require significantly less general upkeep and maintenance.

For working professionals who simply dont have enough spare time to maintain and stay on top of yard work, living in a condo is a great burden off of their shoulders as these chores will be taken care of for them. This service and many others will be included in the cost of the associated fees with owning a condo.

The fact that most of the interior home maintenance isnt handled by the homeowner is also a significant factor when many empty nesters and couples who are nearing retirement age decide to sell their house and downsize into condo. This option is more practical to many, and having less space to manage is a welcomed thought to people whove endured years of shoveling snow and raking leaves, and are simply over it.

The idea of living in a house has been and always will be appealing to people. Those who grew up playing in the backyard want the same for their children. Todays economy has made it more difficult to enter the housing market than in the past. Sometimes the first step into the housing market is making an investment in a condo, and using it as a stepping stone until we can finally afford that dream house.
