subject: Causes Of Warts [print this page] Like what Ive said in my previous article, warts are the stubborn skin growths which are caused by HPV or human papillomavirus. The virus gets in the skin and causes keratin, a hard protein in the top layer of the skin to grow too fast. Because of this, the skin cells reproduce more rapidly than they normally would resulting to small rough growths on different parts of the body.
Warts are not cancerous but it is contagious. Its best to get them removed to reduce the chance of spreading more warts to parts of your body and to other people as well. Some warts can also be painful if left untreated so talk to your doctor about treatment options.
There are about six different types of warts; we need to know what causes warts in order to fully understand on what kind of approach we need for the treatment; these includes common warts , plantar warts or warts fount on feet, flat warts, filiform warts, periungual warts, and the most scary and contagious genital warts.
Transmission of Warts
Warts are easily transmitted from the infected person to others who are not infected. It is best that we have knowledge on how warts are transmitted so we can avoid having them.
Skin to Skin Contact
If a person with warts touches an uninfected person, there is a great possibility for the uninfected to have warts. That virus can easily transfer and live on other persons skin long enough to wait for an opening where it can enter and begin its irritating work.
Sexual Contact
Oral, genital, or anal sex with an infected partner may give you warts specifically genital and anal warts. In men; warts can appear on the penis, scrotum, rectum and surrounding areas. In women; warts can appear on the inside and outside of the vagina, the rectum and surrounding areas, and also on the cervix.
Sharing of Personal Belongings
Sharing clothes, towels, shoes, and other belongings pass the virus from one person to another. It is very important for you to make use of your personal belongings alone.
Warts and Pregnancy
A mother can easily infect the fetus during fetal development or during the labor. This usually happens on normal vaginal delivery. In order to prevent this, a mother with warts should be taken through caesarian section.
Immune Deficiency
When you have immune deficiency, the bodys defense mechanisms to combat infections weaken. This makes it almost impossible to fight off any virus especially HPV.
Strong immune systems will help you fight off the infection after exposure to HPV.
Other things we can do to avoid warts:
If you touch the area of your body with warts, make sure that you wash your hands thoroughly and avoid touching other parts of your body in the mean time as this may spread the warts.
Avoid walking barefoot in public areas, such as pools, gym locker rooms, or shower rooms. Always wear footwear such as flip flops or sandals.
Avoid scratching and other things that may cut your skin so that HPV virus wont easily enter your body.
Never touch other persons wart.
