subject: Man And Organic Disaster [print this page]

In recent years, man has been engrossed in security matters. New security measurements are taken daily to ensure a disaster free world. It is the quest for this that has led to various technological advancements. However, with all expertise and caution on security and safety guide, man has not yet been able to prevent the occurrence of natural disasters.

Natural disaster occurs almost everywhere in the world. This has increased the expenditure of many governments in recent years. Governments are now more cautious of the occurrence of natural disaster. However, many times, natural disaster strikes without been noticed.

Natural disasters are threatening occurrences in nature and often accompanied with loss of lives, properties, disruption of landscape, and sometimes vegetation. Most times, they strike without due warnings and signs. In case there are some portent signs, little still could man do to avert the imminent catastrophe.

There are many ways and forms which natural disasters take. They may occur through any naturally existing matter; air, sand, mud, sea, land, forest, etc. The nature of the natural calamity is greatly determined by the geographical location of the area. A place in the desert would face the natural disaster of wind and tornado. Since the land is open and naked in this area, there may be frequent occurrence of dreadful windstorm.

An area located on the coast will suffer from various natural disasters; volcanoes, tsunami, flooding, etc. Importantly, most of the various natural disasters man witness today are water related. The tsunami in Indonesia was horrific and highly disastrous, likewise the Haiti earthquake and Japan tsunami. Natural disaster is really devastating!

However, with the improvement and breakthrough in technology, man has been able to devise ways of getting alerted or informed prior to the occurrence of natural disaster. Although not perfect so far, it has helped in reducing the effects in case it finally strikes. In the case of tsunamis and earthquakes, man has successfully been able to know the magnitude of the portending disaster. With this, people would have been warned to leave the likely place that could be affected. Properties and other valuables would also have all been evacuated before the horrific occurrence strikes.

There is another dreadful form of natural disaster, mud slide. This is a flood with heavy particles of mud. It moves with strong torrent, destroying everything it comes in contact with. Many lives are usually destroyed as people sink in the mud. Properties too are submerged in the mud flood.

With the relentless effort of man towards achieving a free disaster world, there is still much more hope that natural disasters would someday be overcome. However, an instrument called tensiometer with an electric transducer is now in use in view to curbing natural disasters or at least reducing it to a very minimum magnitude.
