The director and writer/star of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" reteam for the irreverent comedy "The Five-Year Engagement." Beginning where most romantic comedies end, the new film from director Nicholas Stoller, producer Judd Apatow ("Knocked Up," "The 40-Year-Old Virgin") and Rodney Rothman (Get Him to the Greek) looks at what happens when an engaged couple, Jason Segel and Emily Blunt, keeps getting tripped up on the long walk down the aisle. The film was written by Segel and Stoller.Parents need to know that this Judd Apatow-produced romantic comedy stars Jason Segel and Emily Blunt as a couple who find that, the longer their engagement lasts, the more potential problems pop up, making "setting a date" even more of a challenge. Based on the R rating and the trailer, you can expect plenty of innuendo and adult sexual references, as well as some physical humor (falls, etc.) and plenty of language, though overall the tone looks to be more "Hollywood romcom" than "raunchy comedy."

Which is strange, because its not just the latest film from director Nicholas Stoller, its also his latest writing collaboration with Jason Segel, and I love pretty much everything that these guys do. I think the problem is that this one looks like its going to be a romantic comedy thats a little bit heavier on the relationship drama than it will be on the comedy. I like my Jason Segel more silly and whimsical than the one Im seeing here, dealing with the trials and tribulations of loving a woman whos career path is taking his life in a different direction than he saw it going. On the flip side of the coin, this little two-and-a-half minute trailer is pretty much the most comedy Ive ever seen Segels co-star Emily Blunt do, and she seems to be rather good at it. Not every actor can do comedy, so youre never sure what youre going to get until they try. The image of Kate Hudson getting shot in the leg with an arrow really doesnt do much for me, but when it happens to Blunt here I got my one solid laugh from the trailer. Emily Blunt certainly isnt my issue. Check out the first trailer for The Five-Year Engagement after the break.

When I look over the supporting cast for this film, I see nothing but names that I love. This trailer gives us brief appearances from Jacki Weaver, Chris Pratt, Rhys Ifans, and Alison Brie (how dare you only give me two seconds of Alison Brie!), all people that are welcome additions to anything that Im watching. When you add it all up, there isnt any aspect of this movie that I dont like on paper. And yet, the trailer has left me cold, like Im watching a generic relationship movie that Ill forget about a couple weeks after I watch it.Hopefully this is just a case of lame advertising and all of the best bits are still out there for discovery. What do you guys think, does this get you excited for the next Stoller and Segel collaboration?

If Jason Segel's last film, "The Muppets," was fulfilling a childhood dream, then his latest screenwriting endeavor, "The Five-Year Engagement," was done to satisfy another: creating a movie worthy of being placed alongside some classic New York-set romances. Apparently, the Tribeca Film Festival was satisfied: the comedy, co-scripted by Segel, has been selected to open the 11th annual Tribeca Film Festival in April."The Tribeca Film Festival has always celebrated the power of creative collaboration, and there is no better example of that than 'The Five-Year Engagement,'" said Tribeca Film Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal in a press release. "We are so pleased to join with Universal Pictures to bring the wit and energy of this hilarious and affecting film to Tribeca as we kick off our 11th edition.""Five-Year Engagement" is the latest collaboration between Segel and Nicholas Stoller; the pair previously teamed up for "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" (Segel's first produced screenplay) as well as on "The Muppets."

"When Jason and I met during the production of 'Undeclared,' we couldn't have imagined that one day we would write a comedy that would open such a prestigious film festival as Tribeca," Stoller said in a statement. "We are so honored that the festival organizers have given us this platform to premiere the film. To be honest, this is all just a ploy to stand on top of a building with Robert De Niro and look out over New York City at dusk."Starring Segel, Emily Blunt, Alison Brie (!), Jacki Weaver (!!) and Chris Pratt (!!!), "The Five-Year Engagement" details the ups and downs of a couple in the midst of a half-decade engagement. It's set for release nationwide on April 28. It's Tribeca Film Festival premiere will happen on April 19.The Tribeca Film Festival runs from April 19 through April 28.
