Impreza WRX is turbo charged version of famous Subaru Impreza, it garnered massive fan base mainly because of its sportier look and impressive winning record at World Rally Championships (WRC). Subaru has launched 3 generations of Impreza WRX till now, first generation (1992-2000) was offered in 2,4 and 5 door body trims as coupe, sedan and hatchback respectively. It came with options for choosing either a 1.8 or a 2.0 litre engine. Second generation (2001-2007) Subaru Impreza WRX was offered only in 4 and 5 door trims as sedan and hatchback respectively. Like its predecessor second generation Impreza WRX also came with just two different engine codes, buyer could choose either a 2.0 litre or a 2.5 litre engine. Third generation (2007-2012) WRX was again launched only in a 4 door sedan and 5 door hatchback body trims. It came equipped with option for choosing a 2.5 litre engine either with 224 hp or with 265 hp. Among all the generations of WRX, third generation is most widely critiqued for detracting from original Impreza styling. All the WRXs remained AWD cars just like the rally version of Subaru Impreza WRX.
The championship winning Subaru was powered by following WRX engines EJ20 T Engine; this 4 Cam 2.0 litre turbo charged petrol engine was produced from 1996 to 1998. Another variant of same engine was produced till 1999.
EJ20 T Engine (Turbo); it was also 4 Cam turbo charged 2.0 litre petrol engine with newer, improved Turbo. This engine model was used in Subaru Impreza WRX from 2000 to 2005.
EJ20 T Engine (Up-rated); this variant of popular EJ20 T Engine was 2.0 litre, 4 cam turbo charged engine. It was produced from 1998 till 2000.
EJ20 Engine; this was 2.0 litre 4 cam turbo charged petrol engine, used in Impreza WRX from 1992 to 1996.
EJ25 T Engine; this massive 2.5 litre turbo charged petrol engine was produced from 2005 till 2007 and then again in 2008.
