subject: Types Of Assisted Living Services [print this page]

Choosing to move to assisted living may be a difficult decision for a senior and their family. There may be the fear of losing independence with assisted living care and housing. There may be pride in being able to take care of one self that a senior may face in considering assisted living housing. There are many assisted living housing services that help a senior maintain their freedom and care for themselves. Some assisted living will only provide the basic care such as meals, laundry, cleaning, and providing social communities for senior assisted living.

These assisted living services make wonderful senior communities where a senior can enjoy the company of others and enjoy the freedom to come and go from the assisted living housing as they want. This type of assisted living housing is very much like having your own apartment along with the medical services and medical care on hand. This type of assisted living housing also takes the loneliness out of senior life and the risk of living alone and having something happen without the care and help of others. For example, a senior who has a stroke at home alone may not be discovered or get the care they need and the damage of the stroke can be much worse than for a senior living in assisted living where there is care and monitoring of health every day.

In the past, assisted living was always carried out by the family. A senior would live with one of their children and receive the kind of assisted living care in this type of facility. Then a senior would enjoy family and feel needed within the family setting by helping with child care and more. However, today this type of family life isn't always available and assisted living services take the place of this type of family care for the senior communities. But, on top of providing assisted living care including meals, laundry, and medical services, assisted living provides communities of senior citizens who can enjoy the friendships they form in these assisted living communities.

Other types of assisted living services may include a live-in nurse or a nurse that comes around to senior housing to provide the medical services and care necessary for a senior to be healthy. There are other assisted living services that let the senior live in their own housing and the assisted living services include laundry, cleaning, and bringing meals so that the senior receives this type of care and help they need.

Then, of course there are the assisted living facilities that everyone thinks of for the senior communities who have severe disabilities and medical problems who necessitate constant medical care. These assisted living facilities often have senior communities with Alzheimer, dementia, and more. This type of assisted living housing is usually full of senior communities who don't know or recognize their visitors. This type of assisted living housing is sometimes very necessary for the family of a senior who can no longer care for their senior family member because of the disease or brain damage that has occurred.

Inquire in your surrounding communities to find the assisted living services available in your area.
