subject: An Internet Marketing Philosophy In 3 Steps [print this page]

I lost over $500 in 12 hours the first time I ever tried pay per click advertising. I know I'm not the first person to lose money online. However, these 12 hours helped shaped my Internet marketing philosophy I now use.

To make money online I was going to have to learn how to do it. In this article I want to give you my Internet marketing philosophy and narrow it down to three steps. There is a lot that goes into these three steps, but if you can master these things there's no limit to how much money you can make online.

1. Rank your site. I target keyword phrases and try to get them as high as possible on page 1 of Google.

To do this and you are going to have to learn the basics of Internet marketing, and search engine optimization. It all starts with building good keyword lists so you know exactly what phrases you want to rank on Google for.

You also need to do on page optimization. This means building your website around these keyword phrases, and setting the pages up correctly with meta tags, headline tags and so on.

The majority of your time will be spent getting backlinks to your homepage and other webpages on your site. This is where most Internet marketers fail.

This is the hard work part of Internet marketing. However, today you can outsource this or hirer an Internet marketing company to do it for you.

2. Get website visitors. As you begin to rank for keyword phrases people are naturally going to find you on Google.

The higher you are on the page the more traffic you're going to get. Your goal should always be to get above the fold and rank in the top three positions.

The great thing about these kind of visitors is they are very targeted. They're typing in exact keyword phrases relating to the information they want to find.

3. Converting them so you can make money. Build a site that delivers quality information.

We know we are driving targeted visitors to our site so once we get them there we need to convert them into the required action.

If you're building information sites around Google Adsense all you want them to do is click on the ads. If you are selling a product or service your content needs to presell the visitor before passing them through to your sales page.

When you look at these 3 steps you can see why many people fail with Internet marketing. The opportunities are there for everyone, but the amount of work it takes to learn how to do this is alot. Then you have to put everything into place and this is not something most people are willing to do.
