subject: Swim Spas The Wave Of The Future? [print this page]

Swim spas have been around in one form or another for years, but because hot tub pricing was general so much more attractive than the swim variant, they were seen almost exclusively as playthings for the rich.

Make no mistake, they still tend to be very priceyeven at a discount, swim spa prices are such that a top of the line one will still set you back between thirty and forty thousand dollars, to say nothing of the ongoing fees youll shoulder to maintain it once its installed and running on your property.

Still, price isnt (necessarily) the only consideration. There are enormous health benefits to be reaped by swimming, its hard to put a price tag on good health, high swim spa cost or no.

In fact, a recent study done by one Dr. Stephen Blair, of the University of South Carolina, found after surveying more than 40,000 men, age 20-90 years, that their risk of dying had dropped to less than half for those who incorporated swimming as their major form of exercise.

You read that correctly. The study definitively proved that swimming beat walking, jogging, and every other form of regular exercise in terms of promoting better health and longer life, so pricey or no, if its something you can afford, then its very definitely a good option if youre serious about getting and staying healthy!

Bear in mind too, that you dont necessarily need to get the top of the line model with all the bells and whistles (the high end swim spas come complete with built in stereo systems and the likenice if you can afford it, but you can find significant cost savings if youre willing to forego a few features here and there).

If thats still too rich for your blood, consider modifying a hot tub. You can get a large hot tub for as little as six to ten thousand dollars, which is significantly cheaper than even the low-end swim spas, and for an additional three thousand or so, you can add extra jets that will do an okay job of approximating the experience youre looking for.

A perfect solution? No, but if money is an issue, then its an option to think about!
