subject: A Reveiew Of The Key Features Of The Htc One X And Sony Xperia S [print this page]

The Sony Xperia S and the HTC One X are the latest flagship smartphones from the respective manufacturers. Each handset boasts their manufacturers most advanced cameras to date, so in this article I will take a look at the cameras on these phones to see which comes out on top.

Smartphone manufacturers have recently been trying to outdo each other when it comes to the speed at which cameras operate, taking advantage of the new powerful processors found in their devices. The HTC One X, thanks to its 1.5GHz quad-core chip, is able to take a photo within 0.7 seconds of the camera app being opened. However, the Sony Xperia S comes out on top here, as the phone has a camera dedicated camera button on the side of the handset, which can take a photo from the phones lock screen.

Resolution wise, the HTC One X comes in at 8 megapixels, which is average for a high end smartphone these days. Again, the Sony Xperia S trumps it in this department as well, boasting a whopping 12 megapixel resolution. Although superior on paper, both handsets are capable of producing great quality still images, and unless you are an expert on the subject, you are unlikely to notice the difference with the naked eye, especially when viewing photos on the phones high resolution touchscreens.

Of course, such high specification cameras are also capable of capturing video footage, and both are evenly matched in this department. Each phone has a number of different video resolution settings, which can be selected if you wish to save battery or memory, but the maximum on both is 1080p, which is full high definition, and the highest resolution available.

Like just about every other smartphone out there, the HTC One X and the Sony Xperia S both come with a separate front facing camera which can be used to capture self portrait photos and videos, as well as making video calls and Skype calls with contacts who have a compatible device. Both handsets have matching resolutions on their front facing cameras, at 720p so even video calls can be carried out in high definition.

Both cameras come with the full list of features which are aimed at enhancing image quality and simplifying the task of taking them. These include autofocus, touch focus, LED flash, image stabilisation etc, as well as a couple of more unique features. The HTC One X has the ability to take still images while simultaneously capturing video footage, whereas the Sony Xperia S can take 3D sweep panoramic shots. Many of the aforementioned features like autofocus and flash settings can be set to automatic, which takes the guess work out of getting the best results every time.

As you can see, both the HTC One X and the Sony Xperia S are impressive camera phones in their own rights. Although their camera resolutions and operation speeds differ, these are only trivial differences and are unlikely to go noticed by the majority of users. Whichever one you choose, they are both among the finest camera phones available, so you are sure to be impressed with either.
