The unfortunate news about disbanding the three trustees of Sai Sansthan at Shirdi showed no major impact on the Ram Navami celebration mood. Devotees kept on pouring day and night to Shirdi. Due to pouring of devotees from different surrounding as well as distant places like Mumbai, Nagpur, Nanded and Chalisgaon hotels in Shirdi were brimmed up to their full capacity. Especially there was no chance of getting accommodation in hotels near Shirdi temple without prior bookings. Many of the devotees had booked rooms using online facility of booking Shirdi hotels. Shirdi and its surroundings were filled with the essence of devotion towards Sai Baba and Shri Ram.
The festival started on Saturday with recitation of Sai Satcharitra the book describing details on life of Shri Sai Baba. Like every year lakhs of Sai devotees had arrived in Shirdi to take part in the remarkable Ram Navami celebrations accompanied by more than two hundred palakhis coming from different places. The atmosphere was totally filled with religious fervor comprising puja, music, public kirtana and parayana continued for all the three days. Around three lac devotees gathered for the Ram Navami celebrations offered big donations in the form of cash, gold, silver and other valuables. The trust arranged a Prasada meal along with laddoos to the devotees. There is a custom of bringing sacred water from different rivers to be used during the Abhishekh at the Samadhi. This year about 4500 people known as Kawadidharak brought water from different holy rivers. These kawadidharaks travel on foot to Shirdi carrying the pots of water.
On Sunday at 4 am Kakadaarti was performed in the presence of Shri Jayant Kulkarni, chairman of the newly appointed three member committee and his wife. Kakadaarti is the important ritual performed at the Sai temple in Shirdi. After Kakadaarti procession of Sai Babas Padukas was taken in a palkhi from Dwarkamai to the main temple. As per the tradition, the old bag of wheat kept at Dwarkamai was replaced with a new one. This is done every year on Ram Navami day. On Sunday evening a chariot procession was taken through the city. The temple was kept open throughout night for the convenience of devotees. With the Kirtans, Bhajans and Poojas continuing till evening the great festival concluded on Monday.
