This article will teach you how to rip DVDs to iPod Classic on Mac OS X. IPod Classics have smaller screens, but they have super-large storage space (160GB/120GB/80GB) so that you can put dozens of DVD movies to your iPod Classic for watching to kill time while travelling for long hours. Furthermore, you do not have to worry that your physical discs may be scratched or misplaced after copying movie DVDs to iPod Classic hard disk.

However, you cannot transfer a DVD from the disc to your iPod Classic directly because the Classics video player app cannot read the VIDEO_TS files. So you need to rip the video contents off your DVD discs onto your Mac computer, convert them to the Classic-friendly video format like .MP4/.M4V/.MOV etc., then load the DVDrip files onto your iPod Classic hard disk.

Step1. Download a program that can rip the video files from a DVD. The DVD encoding program we will use in this article is iSkysoft DVD Ripper for Mac. This Mac App can rip & convert DVD (commercial DVDs included) to a wide rage of digital video format like MP4, MOV, M4V, AVI, WMV, DivX, etc. on Mac. Free Download this Application and install it to your Mac computer.

Step2. Insert your DVD to the disc drive, open up iSkysoft DVD Ripper for Mac. Click the "Load DVD" option under the "File" menu, then choose the DVD drive from the list of option and the titles/chapters will be loaded to the program. After loading, you can choose which titles/chapters to be converted to iPod Classic or merge multiple titles to one big file.

Step3. Set MP4 or MOV as output video format for iPod Classic from in the output profile. Also, you can click on Option button to adjust output parameters like Resolution, Frame Rate, Bit Rate etc. to customize video quality output. If you have no idea of which output parameters settings are best for iPod Classic, iSkysoft DVD Ripper for Mac offers the optimized preset for iPod Classic, you can set the preset as output format directly.

Step4. Click Convert button to start ripping/converting DVD to iPod Classic on your Mac. After you get the final video files from your DVDs, connect the iPod Classic to your Mac computer using the cables that came with the iPod Classic, open iTunes and sync the new video files to iPod Classic via iTunes. Thats it.
