I wasn't all that hyped about it given that it was a Microsoft product and it still is, after all, Internet Explorer so I wasn't buying into all the hype behind it all over the web. I've seen Microsoft do so before and failed miserably. Does Windows Vista ring a bell?

The speed of the browser is amazing. Embedded below is a screen capture I did showing various websites (including mine) being loaded in two browsers, Chrome and IE9, and I must say I am impressed with IE9s performance. Its fast, not your first sexual experience fast, but more like Usain Bolt fast.

The browser is fast as you can clearly see and when it comes to the HTML5 test is knocks all the other browsers right out of the park. A few of my favourite can be found at this

* ECMAScript5

* ECMAScripts 5 Tile Switch Game

* Enhanced DOM Capabilities

More HTML 5 test can be found at the IE9 test drive page.

After doing the test in both IE9 and Google Chrome I only have one things to say, and that's Chrome needs to step their HTML5 game up.

In the early days of the web, Microsoft was actually a pretty involved party when it came down to drafting and implementing web standards.

and they've done it again with IE9 making HTML5 specs the standard for their browser, while offering a more robust support for CSS3, and SVG2 which means better website compatibility across other browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari).

IE9 also brought to the table a brand new JavaScript engine dubbed "Chakra" which takes advantage of the aforementioned web technologies and much like Chrome's V8 JavaScript engine in that it can run JavaScript directly from the processor, rather than through some sort of layer.

All in all Internet Explorer 9 is a great browser and I expect it to get even better if Microsoft continues on this path. What I would like for them to do is include silent updates, a better Add-Ons page, themes, and as stated before, file type images beside the downloads in the download manager rather that just text.
