subject: Turbine Kits: What Are The Options? [print this page]

Wind turbine kits are a particularly attractive option to purchasing electricity directly off the grid. As power costs continue to go up due to diminishing supplies of fossil fuels worldwide, renewable options of all kinds will continue to gain strength as a viable option for you at home.

As we all know, fossil fuels were made millions of years ago and we are not creating any new supplies. Instead, we are simply discovering the last of the supplies that we have already burned up. As the world becomes increasingly westernized, this trend will continue. If you are looking in to home energy options and most people are now, there are basically 3 things you can do-solar power, geothermal energy, and turbine kits. The first 2 options, solar and geothermal, are definitely doable in some parts of the country and are extremely strong in those locations.

However, there are a lot more expensive and a lot less intuitively elegant than the wind turbine concept. If you are going to go the wind turbine route, then turbine kits are probably going to be your best option, especially for a beginner. That is because the other options that are out there either require a tremendous amount of work, or they are outrageously expensive. The major advantage of turbine kits is their modular construction. They are built with you, the at-home builder, in mind and with the assumption that you want to save time and get your wind device up and running as soon as possible.

People that build wind devices from a set of plans are more of the hobbyist mindset and don't mind how long it takes to get a working product. They tend to enjoy the process of building the unit more than they do receiving the benefit from the energy that is produced.Building one of these units yourself to be tremendously rewarding. However, if your goal is to start shaving some money off of your power bills every month, then you want to get these devices up and running as quickly as possible. If you have the money and don't want to get your hands dirty, you can always buy the wind turbines from a dealer and let them do all the upfront analysis and installation for you.In the final analysis, you will really save money no matter which route should go.

The decision whether to go with wind turbine kits, build the device yourself, or buy from a dealer is really more of a factor of the type of person you are. If you are someone who likes to do things yourself and wants the satisfaction of a project completed through your own efforts, wind turbine built from scratch is an excellent way to do that. But, if you'd like to pick a middle point along the continuum and not do it all yourself, but then again not let the dealer do all the work for you, then wind turbine kits are an excellent compromise.
