subject: A Closer Look At The Impressive Blackberry Bold 9790 [print this page]

The Blackberry Bold 9790 is unmistakable Blackberry. With the combination of a touchscreen and Qwerty keyboard which made the model popular in the first place, along with a number of performance enhancements, RIM has built on the winning formula of previous Bold models. In this article I will introduce some of the key features of this handset you can decide if it is the right smartphone for you.

Camera

Undoubtedly one of the most important features for many people when choosing a new smartphone, the camera on the Blackberry Bold 9790 will not win any awards for its innovation, but it is a well built camera nonetheless, and capable of producing good results. At 5 megapixels, still images are of good quality, and although they will obviously not match those produced by the like of an 8 or 12 megapixel camera like those found on some higher end smartphones, the quality is likely to please the majority of users. The camera comes with all the usual features like autofocus and LED flash, as well as image stabilisation and face detraction, so taking quality photos is a relatively simple task. As well as taking still images, the camera on this phone can also capture VGA quality video footage.

Screen

Along with the Bolds trademark Qwerty Keyboard, the 9790 is one of the first Bold phones to feature a fully functioning touchscreen, replacing the TFT screen of its predecessors. At 2.45 inches, the screen has a resolution of 480x 360, which may not sound very high, but because these pixels are packed into such a small screen, the picture quality is very good. The touchscreen offers an alternative means to navigate the Blackberry 7.0 OS user interface, whereas before there was just a thumb operated optical trackpad (this is also included on the Blackberry Bold 9790).

Other impressive features of the Blackberry Bold 9790 include a capable 1 GHz processor, fast internet browsing via 3G and Wi-Fi, and of course the well known build quality that comes as standard with all Blackberry handsets.

The Blackberry Bold 9790 is by no means the most advanced handset out there, but if you are a fan of Qwerty keyboards, or Blackberry phones in general, this is an ideal choice. The Blackberry Bold 9790 is available now on all major UK networks, with the cheapest deal starting at just 7 per month from T-Mobile, with many other tariffs offering the handset itself for free.
