subject: Ensure You Wear The Correct Protective Clothing When Motorcycling [print this page]

For many motorcyclists, motorcycling isnt just a mode of transport, its also a hobby. Riding a motorbike brings with is an exhilarating feeling that adrenaline junkies everywhere love, but there are a number of safety measures you need to take when out on the roads, whether you are just beginning in your love of motorcyclists or you are an experienced rider.

Despite the fact that motorcyclists make up just one per cent of drivers on the UKs roads, up to 20 per cent of the road traffic accidents that result in serious injuries or death involve them, meaning it is more important than ever to ensure you look after yourself when out motorcycling. Though you may not be responsible for an accident that you are involved in on your bike, wearing the correct protective clothing could actually help to save your life.

The UK law states that you must wear a helmet when motorcycling. If you dont, you will not only be breaking the law but will also be risking your life, and as there are a great many safety helmets for you to choose from there really isnt any excuse for not wearing one. You can now buy helmets for hardly anything at all, so you dont need to break the bank by purchasing one; although it is more sensible to choose a helmet from a well-known company that creates high-quality helmets. If you choose to wear a helmet that doesnt come with a visor, you must wear goggles to protect your eyes.

Aside from wearing a helmet you should also buy yourself some protective motorcycling gear. Though this isnt a law, wearing this clothing can protect your body from serious injuries should you be thrown off your bike during an accident. You can get motorcycle jackets, trousers, boots, gloves and oversuits, so you will be able to stay protected when out and about.

Choosing motorcycle clothing that has armour points will protect areas of the body that are most-commonly injured following crashes, so lookout for those that have armoured shoulders, elbows, backs, knees and ankles.

Most motorbike accidents occur because car drivers dont see them. You can stop this from happening to you by wearing fluorescent clothing in the daytime that will be eye-catching enough to alert other drivers to your whereabouts on the road. When driving in the dark you should wear reflective clothing that will make you visible from far away, meaning other drivers will be able to look out for you.
