subject: Eye Problems - Why You Have To Accept Them As You Get Older [print this page]

Many of us do not worry about our health too much when we are young adults. We certainly don't tend to worry about our eyes because as long as they are functioning properly and look okay, then you don't need to worry about them at all. Unfortunately you will start to worry about your eyes as you get older, however, because there are certain eye problems that are actually quite common.

One of the first things you will notice, possibly as early as your twenties, is that you will start to get dark circles under your eyes. This is often due to a busy lifestyle and not enough sleep, in which case it may be possible to eliminate these circles by sleeping for a full seven or eight hours per night.

However these circles can often present themselves even if you do get more than enough sleep every night. So you then have to find a way of concealing them so they do not make you look too unattractive, either with make-up, foundation or some kind of eye cream.

As you get older, there are other eye problems that you may have to deal with is well. There is of course the age old problem of deteriorating vision, which may necessitate the need to have glasses or contact lenses. There are also additional problems that will affect the appearance of your eyes as well.

For example not only do you get more lines around your eyes, and possibly a lot more puffiness in addition to the dark circles, but you may also find that you have droopy eyelids as well. This is basically where the eyelids sag over the top of the eyes, which in turn makes you look tired and run down, even if you feel full of energy on the inside.

It is possible to treat this problem with upper eyelid surgery if you want a permanent solution, or you can use some eye strips to hold your eyelids in place whenever you go out for the evening. To be honest this is not as much of a problem as deteriorating vision because nothing is more important than your eyesight.

Indeed once you reach your seventies, or indeed your sixties for that matter, you will often find that this is the time that your eyesight really starts to get worse. If you're lucky it may not get too bad, but you may find that you start to suffer from macular degeneration, which is of course a more serious problem.

Anyway the point is that it is very difficult to go through life without worrying about any aspect of your eyes, whether it is how they actually look or how they function in terms of your overall vision. You will always have some kind of eye problems to deal with because no one has absolutely perfect eyes as they get older. So I guess you just have to learn to accept this fact and try and treat any problems that you may encounter with your eyes.
