subject: A Legitimate Degree Form Music Production Colleges? [print this page] Recently my son graduated, and the debate for what to do next was started. Of course I had dreams of community college, followed by a university degree. Then after graduation, he would be picked up by some great company and that would be that. But, as I came to see, the idea of college didn't appeal to him in the least. Both of us began feverishly looking for alternatives. What surprised me, was the one idea we agreed on looking into more. Music production colleges.
Things had changed so much since I graduated college. It wasn't that long ago, then I had him, and now here we were here. I thought I was in the loop...but I was wrong. There was so much more available, besides just trade schools and universities. Lots of schools specializing in specific industries were also emerging.
Even though I felt hesitant, I tried to keep an open mind. It didn't seem like a real education at first. The idea of the entertainment industry didn't excite me either, but I still checked into it. After some research, it started looking more probable.
The training is unique and interesting. Everything from specialty classes, to basics on business and marketing. And when you graduate, instead of some worthless paper, you walk away with a real degree. They have programs for both bachelors and masters, so you can go as far as you want!
As we looked at the course work, it started looking promising. Classes on 'Managing Artists', "Developing Brands', and 'Marketing' all looked fun. I began to think maybe this may be just the thing we were looking for. He would continue learning in a place that he enjoyed, and I would get the degree to frame.
After a few inquiries with schools, I was beginning to become a believer. The front desk was cordial, and organized. It helped ease my mind about the type of place this was. Plus, I found some women on line, who had kids enrolled in the school we were considering. They were a huge help in helping me decide on whether this was the right path for us.
Now it's just a matter of weeks until my son goes away to start the journey. I'm really happy things have changed, and there's these new options for kids like mine. Trade schools are great for some, but not all. And mainstream college just doesn't work for everyone. But, music production colleges just might be the alternative you've been searching for, if you're in that situation. I'm looking forward to how it all turns out.
