subject: Nurses Are Truly The Unidentified Saints [print this page]

We usually dont notice the saintly nature of nurses when we go to the hospital for treatment. This is a flaw in our society that we take things for granted and dont bother to think about the people who are around us. There is a purpose for everything and nursing field was first developed by the church to help the suffering people physically with care. They use to take care of old and ill people who came to the church in order to please the god not for themselves. Even there was nothing materialistic in return except the prayers. Soon nursing became a proper field and hospitals and medical centers started hire them with suitable salaries.

Now we can see nurses in every hospital and clinics but we are unaware of their importance. I realized this when I was suffering from tonsillitis and an operation was recommended by the doctor. Although it was a minor operation but I t requires lots of recovery time. Initially I was afraid because I had never passed through such situation and the environment of hospital seems scary to me. But I had no option other than to go for operation. I signed the documents and registered a private room in the hospital after few hours I was taken to the operation theatre where I entered in to wrong area where I saw an operation for the first time but still I decided to go on. I asked one of the assistant surgeon about the location and so I reached my destination where a group of nurses and 2 doctors were waiting.

They told me that my late arrival made them to think that maybe I ran away after seeing the operation theatre and I smiled over it but this was just there trick to make me feel relax. After that a nurse came to me and instructed to lay aside on a stretcher where she gave me anesthesia by an injection. I was watching her when she was giving me injection and she smiled with a nice and positive look which gave me a sense of safety. After that I dont remember anything related to operation but of course I remember the aftermath. When I regained my consciousness I saw my mother in front of me with my dad and my throat was stuck and painful as the effect of temporary pain killer injection was reducing.

I was in a private room where my family was there with me but after a specific time some family members had to and only one can stay with me. My mother decided to stay with me and a nurse was assigned by the hospital to check me as well. I analyzed the nurses expertise related to her work for the first time she knew before I do that what kind of problem I am going to face and at what time. She told me that I will feel a lot of pain when the wounds of throat become harder after 2 days and the same thing happened she brought me medicines and other required stuff at nights and bought me nice fresh juices as I was unable to eat food. She demanded not a single favor in return. I asked her about her qualification one day as she was quite good in reading, writing and understanding things. I was surprised to know that she was qualified from a medical university in masters in nursing degree program.

She was also the holder of a nursing scholarship covering her studies expenses. She told me that her life was hard as she was from a poor family but her love with studies made her life. She joined medical university after earning good grades in high school and many of her friends were also pharmacists who had qualified from the same university with masters in pharmacy. The most astonishing part for me was that these fields have now proper degree programs to groom and develop professionals.

She became my friend and now still I can see her saintly nature which will never change for good. I pray for her success and good life.
