CFA Institute awards the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. In addition to administering the CFA Exam, CFA Institute publishes the Financial Analysts Journal, founded in 1945. CFA Institute also operates the CFA Institute Centre for Financial Market Integrity and the Research Foundation of CFA Institute.
About CFA
The CFA Program is administered by the CFA Institute, USA. The program has three levels, and candidates seeking the charter need to clear all the three exams. Candidates can give the exams only in June and December each year.
The minimum time required for clearing all the three exams is 1.5 years (provided you give Level I Exam in the month of December). However the average time for clearing all the three levels is around 4 years. The CFA Institute recommends 250 hours of study for each exam level.
CFA charter holder membership requirements include, but not limited to 48 months of acceptable professional work experience and passing the Level I, Level II, and Level III exams.
Structure of the Exam
Level I exam is available in June and December each year. Level II and III exams are available in June each year.
(a) The Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) was established in 1984 as a non-profit society, with the objective of providing training in finance and management. It offers a certification program for financial analysts known as CFA (originally Certified Financial Analyst, later becoming Chartered Financial Analyst).
(b) Now, ICFAI is in NO way affiliated with the CFA Institute nor other awards, such as CA or ICWA and both the institutes have broken their partnerships and running their courses separately.
(c) The Indian Trademark registry recognizes ICFAIs right to use the CFA trademark and does not recognise the CFA Institutes sole right to use the CFA trademark.
(d) Indian CFA Course Curriculum: This course is designed for the Indian financial system and is therefore offers more localised than the CFA Institutes (USA) program. ICFAI is a Private Institute and Indian CFAs need not be employed mandatorily by Indian companies. The Indian CFA Program focuses on Financial Analysis as applicable to Investment Management. The CFA Program offered by ICFAI has been developed and is consistently reviewed in the context of the present and future needs of the corporate sector, the investment industry and the financial services sector in India.
