subject: Trade Show Booth Location [print this page]

When you're gearing up to go to a big tradeshow there are many things to think about. You need to be sure to pack up your retractable banner stands and your pop up displays that will be sure to catch the eye of everyone who comes to the show. But something you may not think about is the location of your booth and display.

You want to be centered where there is going to be a lot of traffic, however, it is cautioned that you stay away from high volume traffic areas such as entrances and exits. Because there is so much hustle and bustle around these particular areas, it is easy to overlook even the greatest booth if it is directly near the door. While it may seem like a good idea to garner attention to be in such a high traffic area, it can actually be a detriment. No one wants to stand in an overcrowded noisy place trying to listen to a sales pitch or mission statement. Even the best double sided banner stands will be overlooked in these areas.

Another interesting factoid that may help you is the interesting data and studies done about trade shows in America versus those in Europe. It has been noted by observation and by study and numbers that most Americans will view booths on the right side of a trade show while Europeans will visit those on the left. Though this seems odd, it does have some rational explanation. Because of how those particular countries are trained to drive on their streets and highways, the inhabitants of these countries are naturally engrained to go in that direction. You'll want to keep this odd, yet effective, information in mind when you're planning trade shows elsewhere in the world or domestically.

Ask the tradeshow vendor what booths have signed up around the location where you have picked for your booth. You'll want to stand out and make sure that your signage, whether they be large format banners or your standard tradeshow banners, is significantly different, distinct, and stands out more than those of the people around you.

With these tips in mind, you'll be able to choose the best piece of real estate for your trade show booth that will maximize your success! After all, you've spent a lot of time conceiving what your booth will display and how it will run, you should consider the location an important factor in a successful show.
