subject: How To Gain Traffic For Your Site - What Pros Won't Tell You [print this page]
Despite what you may of heard, the life of a blogger takes time and patience. Millions of new bloggers lose faith and give up within the first couple of weeks, because they can't seem to attract visitors. There are some tricks though, that the pros would rather keep from the newbies. The less the newbies know the less competition the pros have.
Getting traffic to a new blog can take time, but it isn't impossible if you know what you are doing. The newest blog I'm working on, Bro-Juice.com, has only been in circulation for a few weeks, and it already has about thirty thousand page views. This means I could already charge about $150 per month for each banner on my site. This was all done in a few short weeks by focusing on three key methods: Article Writing, Keeping The Haters Out, and Promoting.
Article writing is one of the most important methods to get traffic that any blogger can take part of. Most of the time the author of the article is just trying to get traffic to his or her site, instead of actually writing something useful. Lending a helping hand can get readers curious, and that will be the reason they come visit your site.
Lets say your blog is about bar-tending, and you want to write an article to help promote your site. Your best bet would be to write an information piece on how to be a better bartender, or ways to make a certain drink. This would be the type of content newer bartenders will be seeking out, while old bar vets would be interested to hear what you have to say. Then make sure that some where in your article you mention your blog, and the reader will most likely visit it. Using this approach with your specific niche is a good way to gain interest in your article, and gain decent traffic.
One thing that seems to surprise bloggers once they start getting traffic is not everyone will like your writing. There will be people out there who think your blog is crap, and will leave you hateful comments on your posts. More established blogs rarely delete comments because they are a traffic monster, and the more comments the better. The problem with your newer blog is you don't have an established audience yet. Someone can be interested in your site, and then reads a bunch of comments saying "you suck," which will no doubt influence them to seek reading material else where. So make sure you delete the hate comments for awhile until you start to build up a solid fan base.
The hardest part about blogging is the promoting you need to do for it. Most owners of young blogs are looking for free ways to advertise. Forums can always be a good place to start, but a lot of the time you can come off as a spammer. Social Marketing is a good way to gain traffic also. If you post a big story at the right time it could lead to thousands of hits, just because of it being posted on Twitter. Also a Facebook group for your specific blog might be a good way to communicate with hardcore fans. You really need to think outside the box when it comes to promoting. Maybe your site needs a few T-Shirts that you can hand out at local colleges, or bars? If you're savvy with cameras, you can try and make a viral campaign on Youtube to also gain interest. A viral Youtube video can bring an amazing amount of traffic if used correctly.
It's really in your hands on how far your blog will go, and how much time you want to spend on it. Some people have had such success with blogging that they no longer need to work. If you focus on your writing, and keep at these three keys, you should be on your way to at least making some extra money for yourself.
Just look at Bro-Juice.com, and use it as an example. In three weeks I've received thirty thousand page views, and all from these steps. If you'd like to know more, or you are interested in liking up with me, then give me a shout out at my site. Good luck my fellow bloggers!
