subject: Urban Loneliness [print this page] Loneliness is something that has become a part of life for every body in the world. There are different types of loneliness like intellectual, college, interpersonal, etc. Urban loneliness is also one of them. As the urban population is increasing day by day, the people are having a lot of problems in satisfying their minds with various things there.
Urban population has it own pros and cons. It leads the people to move in the world with more and more care.
Emigrants and Immigrants
There are various people who move from one country to the other. They leave their native country and come in an environment, culture, social norms, customs and religion that are totally alien to them in a new land. A person belonging to this community finds himself totally at a loss as what to do. Sometimes, the problem of understanding a new language is also there. This type of loneliness is always problematic and leads him to more and more difficulties. Such people feel themselves completely lost and loneliness becomes a part of their lives in the worst possible condition. They may overcome it to some extent if they get a good job and friends at the new place but mostly due to the language problem, jobs are also aloof from them.
From Other Cities
People sometimes migrate from other cities or states and come into a new environment. They belong to different cities and it has a deep affect on their personalities as this type of act lets them stay physically close to the other people but spiritually far away from them. This type of urban loneliness may be removed and overcome only with patience and forbearance and by becoming more social.
Busy Life
Life in cities and towns is quite busy and the people have to keep in mind that this busy life has its benefits as well as disadvantages. Benefits include more income, better facilities, comfortable home, a car and so on while the disadvantages include pollution, a craze to earn more and a wish to possess everything around. This type of busy life provides loneliness to the people even when they are among so many people.
Ego in Cities
There are classes in cities: aristocratic, middle, lower middle, poor, below poverty, and so on. All these classes lead a person to live in the same class as the other classes are alien to him. And if we talk about the people belonging to the same class the people even there are in a sort of competition among themselves. This competition leads them to have no more concern for each other. Urban loneliness becomes all the more visible among them when they find it difficult for themselves to go with the other classes of society.
People have been hankering after money in cities and towns and this has led to urban loneliness. This loneliness is engulfing all their activities and making them more and more concerned about the present day world. Their ego, alien status, transfer to different cultures and many other things lead them to a loneliness for which there is no cure at doctors' clinics. Only psychologists and psychiatrists may deal with this sort of situations.
