subject: Kuala Lumpur One Day Walking Trip [print this page]

Wherever I travel to a new city, I prefer to walk around by myself rather than join tour or taxi. By walking around, I able to experience the local lifestyle. I able to visit the local wet and dry market, the local restaurants and etc.

Kuala Lumpur is not a big spread city whereby actually you could expose to the local culture. Being born in Kuala Lumpur and leaving for more than 30 years. I, myself have not done it to my city. Thanks to my China friend, Tony who visited me and I took the courage to walk him through the KL city under the hot sun

We started from Tonys guest house (Sahabat Guest House), we were heading for our breakfast (Roti Canai, Indian pancake) nearby the guest house at Tengkat Tong Shin. We started our walking journey from there after our breakfast. We bypassed most hotel in KL - Swiss Garden Hotel, Pudu Raya bus station and Ancasa Hotel, while heading to Petaling street (China town).

China town (Petaling street) is the street whereby the gather place for business in early Chinese arrival from China 100 years ago. Now the street is full of shops, restaurants and hawker stalls, beside this. There are few places you should while walking around in Petaling street, Chan association temple, Sze Ya temple and Sri Maha Mariamman Temple. We spent our lunch at the old Chinese restaurant, we ordered nyoya nasi lemak and fried rice. Sad to see none of the staff are Malaysian.

We continued our journey to Central Market for local handicraft and Merdeka Square, in between you will see the oldest Muslim mosque Masjid Jamek. You may visit our heritage railway station which is behind the Merdeka Square. After this we bypassed to visit Masjid India and Chow Kit area to look our pre-war buildings. At this hour under hot sun, my friend Tony couldnt take the weather and we took a break, went into KFC for cool drinks.

We took the monorail from Chow Kit back to KLCC area, we stopped at Bukit Nenas station. We walked towards to KLCC direction (Jalan Ampang), meanwhile you visit the Tourism Malaysia Centre at your right hand side. We bypassed Hotel Maya at your left before we reached to the junction of KLCC.

You may visit Aquaria KLCC, Petrosains centre and famous Twin Towers Skybridge, beside crazy shopping. Admission for Twin Towers skybridge is free, on first come first served basis. You need to square for tickets before 10am daily. We skipped these 2 places for shopping, because cosmetics and fragrance products here are much cheaper compared in China, almost 50% off.

We walked through the KLCC park towards to The Heritage at Jalan stonor and Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex at Jalan Conlay. These 2 places are nearby. You may come back if you are staying nearby. By the time we finished our KL walking tour. It was at 6pm, we cross the road to the city latest luxury mall Pavilion.

We spent our dinner at Kampachi Japanese restaurant (6th Floor) in Pavilion. Next day, I drove him to Istana Negara and Batu Caves.
