I've been wanting to learn to draw manga for a long time. I've always loved manga and anime, starting with Ghost in the Shell and Dragon Ball, and later Full Metal Alchemist and Naruto.

The characters in these stories are so well developed and I love how well the artists bring out the emotions and actions, without having to animate them. Unfortunately, I have always been a below average artist, and no matter how much I have practiced, I never seemed to get any better.

I then stumbled across a manga drawing book titled Mad About Manga. I was, naturally, skeptical of it, because I had never had any success with drawing manga in the past. Not only that, but all of the other books that I have used were just telling me to practice more. I like I said earlier, I had practiced a LOT without any progress at all.

What Mad About Manga did that really helped me was teach me starting with the basics. My biggest problem I learned was that I kept trying to draw my favorite characters from scratch, that is nearly impossible. Now I know the basics of drawing human shapes, and from that I can draw step by step until I have the perfect manga character. Not only that, but Mad About Manga taught me how to perfectly draw the eyes, nose, and mouth. This did not only make me better at drawing the faces themselves, but also really brought the characters to life by adding a ton of emotion to every character I drew.

I would highly recommend Mad About Manga not only to people that have had trouble learning to draw manga, but even experienced artists who are looking to increase their skills.
