subject: Matte Photo Paper And The Benefits Offered [print this page]

Printing photographs is no longer an expensive affair. Unlike in the past, you need not run to a professional photo studio each time you want to get the prints of your digital photographs. Thanks to the printers and photo papers, it is now possible to take the prints of photographs in the comfort of your home with minimal expenditure. There are different types of paper that are available exclusively to print photographs. The features and finish of one paper are different from that of the other. The matte photo paper is one of the main types of photo paper that is commonly used for home printing.

The matte photo paper is unlike the glossy paper. It has a textured finish and is lightly rough to touch. One of the biggest benefits of matte paper is that it does not reflect a lot of light. Therefore, photos printed on this paper can be seen clearly without having to strain the eye. The fact that it has lesser sheen as compared to its glossy counterpart actually works in its favor. This photo paper is also used commonly by professional photo studios to develop photos from camera rolls. Since the surface is not very shiny, it can also be used to take prints of photos that you intend to place in photo frames. Even when you place them in glass frames and keep them near a window sill or just below the lamp, you can still be assured of clarity. One of the other reasons why photos printed on matte paper are preferred for photo frames is because the ink dries up faster on matte than on glossy paper. Placing the photos in the frames when the ink has not dried completely takes away the charm from the picture.

When you take prints of photographs on matte photo paper, you can easily pass them across the room from one person to the other for them to take a closer look. You need not worry about the fingerprints smudging the paper. Unlike in the case of glossy paper, you need not worry about smudges and stains on matte paper. More often than not, people would like to get their old photos enlarged before getting them printed. In such cases, printing these photos on matte paper will result in better clarity and sharper pictures. If you are looking for double sided prints, then there can be nothing comparable to matte photo paper.

One of the biggest advantages of matte photo paper is that it is ideal for printing large advertisements. The large company ads are always placed outdoors for better visibility. Printing them on glossy photo paper will result in problems, because of the glare that is produced by this paper when light falls on it. This is why most professional photographers and studios recommended matte paper because pictures on this paper can be viewed with clarity even from a distance. Since it does not reflect as much light as the glossy paper, there are lesser distracting elements.
