This is the most combative and challenging part of the divorce process, since one would most likely try his/her best to prove that he is the most equipped person to take care of their child. The court in this case has the ability to come into one agreement regarding parental rights. Included in this agreement is the discussion of child visitation rights, child custody, child support and the like. Judges usually choose to award joint custody unless one is proven to be unfit to take care of the children.

It can be helpful to have a lawyer represent you in front of the divorce court, but going it alone by going pro se is always a beneficial way to go, since you know everything about your own case already. Since your custody arrangement means everything to you, you can fight for your rights as a father, as you have everything on the line. This can help save you thousands in filling a lawyer in on your case, when you already know the ins and outs yourself.
