subject: What Type Of Power Hand Tools Can I Purchase [print this page]

It is quite common to find power hand tools in the toolboxes and workshops of DIY enthusiasts. Most possess at least an electric drill or power sander. Powered tools are a great option if you need to get a large project completed very quickly, without losing any of the quality. The tools that are present in the toolbox can easily distinguish between the true craftsman and the beginner.

Some of the most basic hand tools require a high level of precision when being used. However, if a task requires a lot of manpower, a powered tool is usually the best option. There is usually a power tool equivalent to the most common of hand tools, and though they might not require the same skill level, you have to bear in mind the safety aspect involved.

The electric drill was probably the first power tool commonly available. These days you can get various attachments in order to make it multipurpose. There are attachments available for it to be used quite efficiently as a screwdriver or a sander, or in fact any tool that requires rotational speed to drive it. However, if you just have the basic version it will complete its task of hole boring extremely efficiently. There are also cordless drills, that are battery-powered.

One tool that is so simple to use, you would not think there would be a requirement for a powered equivalent is a hammer, however there is one. The nail gun has become a favorite for workers in the construction industry as it does its job extremely quickly, and without much effort. They come in various sizes, and are usually driven by compressed air.

There is one carpentry task that a lot of people find extremely tedious, and labor-intensive, and that is sanding down furniture. There is a power tool to relieve this tedium, and it not only works on flat surfaces, but curved ones as well. It is an electric sander, and is ideal for smoothing down all forms of wood and removing paint from surfaces that are going to be reworked.

An electrically powered jigsaw is a great tool if you want to cut out wooden shapes very easily. They are extremely easy to use, and produce very accurate results, even in the hands of beginners. The results that an expert can produce from such a tool would be extremely difficult to reproduce using a hand-held version.

There are certain things that you have to bear in mind when you start using a power tool. A major one is to use common sense regarding safety aspects. Reading the handbook will usually make you aware of the dangers, and advise you whether you need to wear certain safety clothing such as glasses and ear defenders. This advice has been included in the handbook for a reason.

The uses of power hand tools and their manually operated equivalents are not that different. The functions and results are basically the same. The advantage that the powered tools have, is that they can offer a greater efficiency to any task.
