subject: Gardening Gives Every Gardener The Feel Good Factor [print this page]

Gardening gives every gardener a feel good factor, out in the fresh air doing gentle exercise, taking the stress out of life, these are the good things associated with gardening.

A keen gardener will fill his garden with flowers, shrubs, trees and vegetables and every space of a garden is planted with interest and beauty. Old favourites such as geraniums, lavender, roses, and begonia are all seen living together in harmony and of course beauty.

The begonia plant very often starts its life indoors, and is planted up in shallow wooden seed trays, peat moss and sand are used as a starting medium, some experts recommend well rotted leaf mold, but if using peat moss and sand it should be loose and well drained and should not contain fertilizer or manure.

Wait until the tubers develop sprouts, if you do start them sooner this will encourage rot. Plant the tubers about 3 inches apart in the tray, keep moist, and dont over water, at this point the tubers need to be kept warm and a lot of people will keep them in their airing cupboard. When the sprouts are 2 to 3 inches long, they are ready to be potted, the hanging basket tubers can be planted directly into their baskets, and you will only need three or four tubers to make a nice full 10 inch hanging basket. The most important factor to consider in preparing any soil for tuberous begonias is perfect drainage.

Soon all over the UK the geranium plant will flaunt their red and scarlet, rose, pink, and white blooms with gay abandon that few other plants can rival. They can be seen in window boxes in containers, pots and tubs on terraces and patios, and in hanging baskets, they are the most beloved and cherished plants.

Gardeners all over the world love the geranium, and when grown in abundance is a sight to behold, the plant needs sun to bloom, and they do not like too much moisture if they are kept too wet the leaves turn yellow.

Many gardeners are of the mindset that an English garden is not complete without a lavender bush in it; it is such a romantic flower that every gardener sooner or later wants these plants in their garden.
