It is imperative that the work environment should be safe and healthy, whether at the plant or the office. Health and safety programs not only protect workers by reducing hazards and their consequences, but also have positive effects on the workers morale and productivity alike.
Recently four units of The Sanmar Group were awarded International Safety Awards by the British Safety Council. The Sanmar Group companies received nine National Safety Awards from the Government of India recently for appreciable safe working. The Group companies also received State Safety Awards from Tamil Nadu Government for longest accident free working and for highest reduction in accident rate. These awards recognize the real commitment of the group in improving Health and Safety and are a proof for achieving high safety standards.
This is achieved through detailed work practices on Safety and Health that provides a safe and healthy working environment for all employees and those working for Sanmar.
Safety guidelines are available in plants covering all safety related issues including personal protective equipment use, permit systems, the fire protection system, toxic gas monitoring, work place monitoring, safety walk, manual handling of materials, tools use, material transportation, transport emergency and mobile equipment. Safety booklets are provided in vernacular language. Booklets covering various safety issues are being distributed to all contract and regular employees for ready reference.
Periodical Safety Inspections include Fire protection arrangements, Material handling equipment, Safety interlocks, Emergency systems, Safety equipment, Availability and use of protective equipment and others.
Structured safety training to all categories of employees is conducted regularly to enhance safety awareness. Fire safety and emergency drills are carried out on a regular basis. Internal auditing system is established to verify the adherence of the established systems and procedures. Regular safety tool box talks at the workplace helps overcome hazards.
All incidents including near misses are captured through specific reporting format, all these incidents are investigated and the recommendations are implemented to prevent recurrence
