subject: Perhaps Not So Crazy Concept Cars From Peugeot [print this page]

Peugeot is a manufacturer that is well known for pushing the boundaries of their vehicles. This article explores the genesis of these ideas by examining some of the concept cars that Peugeot has built.

Whilst most concept cars dont get very far down the road of full scale production- there are some cool reasons why manufacturers choose to experiment with concept cars. Firstly a concept car will showcase the work of the manufacturer and show that they have the ability to design outside the box vehicles which showcase innovation and excitement. Another reason is to try out new features and to push the boundaries of automotive technology.

If you look at the work that Peugeot has done in the area of concept cars you quickly learn that they are more than happy to show their current work on their website. One such concept car that has been featured is the Peugeot EX1. This concept car is 100% electric and is renowned for two reasons. The first is that this car was a celebration of Peugeots 200th birthday and secondarily and perhaps more importantly because it is famed for breaking six world records.

At the other end of the spectrum another car from the Peugeot concept car range is the Peugeot BB1. Again this is an electric car but instead this is a response to the needs of the city motorist. This car, whilst only 2.5 meters long can fit in four people which is exceptionally impressive. Peugeot has managed to make use of the space in such a way as to sit the driver in a more vertical position, maximising space. In part this has been accomplished by removing the standard pedals that youll find in a normal car which is why its a concept!

Whilst you may not be able to purchase the Peugeot concept cars some of the things that Peugeot has experimented with in the past has ended up in their production models.
