Waterproofing is a material, usually a membrane or applied compound used to make a surface impervious to water. Actually the waterproof or water resistant describes objects relatively unaffected by water or resisting the ingress of water under specified conditions. Such items may be used in wet environments or under water to specified depths. Waterproofing describes making an object waterproof which often refers to penetration of liquid water.

Waterproofing is a method by which an item is made resistant to damage by water. Waterproofing is the formation of an impervious barrier which is designed to prevent water entering or escaping from various sections of building structures. Internal areas that are waterproofed include bathrooms, shower recesses, laundries and toilets. Whilst an external area waterproofed extends to roofs, planter boxes, podiums, balconies, retaining walls and swimming pools etc. Mainly the waterproofing system is used for the purpose of increased property value, structurally sound foundation, a healthier home environment for the family, a warmer basement during winter; enjoy an increased living space and a more attractive and more comfortable home.

Water can be damaged like- the rooting of metals such as steel reinforcement in concrete, steel beams, lintels, metal door frames etc, swelling of plasterboards and the subsequent deboning of ceramic tiles, electrical hazards causing the possible short circuit of lighting and power points, the blistering of paint and unsightly deterioration of the building faade. As well as the water can be created the health problems due to the dampness, this may lead to respiratory problems and rotting carpet. As a result, the importance of waterproofing cannot be overstated. The damaged caused to the buildings structure, coupled with the high cost of rectification warrants the careful design and application of waterproofing.

At present, the technological improvements and breakthroughs are occurring on a daily basis. Overtime todays waterproofing membranes such as polyurethanes, acrylics and polyesters will become as antiquated as leaves and animal skins are today. There are available various categories waterproofing products in the market. Most commonly, aluminum and PVC angles, reinforcing cloth, drainage cell, cloth and butyl tapes, protection boarding, flanges and outlets wash plus more. In the other side, there are different types of waterproofing hardware items like- paint brushes and rollers, poles and frames, protective gear, scrappers, knives, caulking and barrel guns, garden sprayers and cleaners etc. as well as there are many different basement waterproofing options available to homeowners from exterior to interior ,variety of waterproofing options can be a little overwhelming to homeowners seeking a remedy to their wet basement problem.
