subject: When To Buy Web Traffic [print this page]

Every on-line marketer lives or dies by traffic and conversions. But should you buy web traffic to make it happen? The question generates much debate amongst Internet online marketers; some believe in it, others don't.

Have you thought about where this traffic comes from? How does it materialize out of apparently thin air?

You can get paid traffic via several routes, but Bing's Microsoft adCenter and Google's AdWords are the two best known. These are both PPC (Pay per Click) advertising methods.

In outline you can place a small advertisement through either Google or Bing that they will post on search or other web pages on your behalf. If a visitor clicks on your link then they are redirected to your website and you will be charged for that click.

It can happen very quickly once you create your advertising account and submit your ad. As soon as your ad is approved, normally a few hours, then it will appear and will start generating visitors. You can set how much each click will cost and you can manage your daily budget too so as to keep within sensible limits. If you can work out how much each visitor is worth to you then you can decide if it is to be a profitable venture or not.

When seeking to build a reputable business to make money on the Internet use regular alternatives such as List Marketing and avoid spamming or Black Hat techniques such as Traffic Exchange which will only harm your website's reputation.

When you use List Marketing you provide the list owner with an email ad. He then sends it to his list and will guarantee a certain minimum number of site visitors to your web link. You will pay a fee and, again, you get the opportunity to convert the visitor to be a signup of customer.

So, now to the big question - is it worth it for you? The answer depends on how well you can convert visitors into paying customers over their average lifetime. The marketplace, and your abilities as a marketer, must drive those conversions so as to more than cover your costs.

Let's say you are an affiliate marketer promoting a $50 product with a 50% payout. Now, if you allowed up to 50% of that to buy traffic at $1 per click then you would need to make one sale from each group of 12 your visitors. If you calculate that the conversions you achieve from the traffic you expect is sufficient to make you a sensible profit then it is a good method to try.

Run the math first so you know your targets then watch and limit your costs so all is under control, You could be a natural in this field.

You may not succeed at first, but so long as you are getting some success then you can develop your ad and offer and so find out whether or not you should buy web traffic.
