subject: 4 Easy Tips For Caring For Your Acoustic Guitar [print this page]

Once you own an acoustic guitar, you need to realize that it needs to be treated well. I do not believe you want your guitar to end up having lots of rust, I do not think anyone wants that, but it can and does happen if you do not take any precautions towards it. And lets face it, rust is not pretty. It is very normal for the rust to accumulate on your guitar, but you can definitely stop that from happening. Caring for guitar is not as simple as wiping down dust of the table. So I listed tips below to help you. Each tip is packed with lots of great and informative ways to help you.

The right way to take care of your guitar

- Keep a nice clean cloth nearby

Because your fingers carry a lot of oils they leave grease marks on your guitar that you may not even notice right away. To keep grime from building up I recommend wiping down your guitar with a clean soft cloth after each time you play it. You may not think it is important, but then when they see nasty stuff on their guitar they freak out, and end up having to work twice as hard at getting it off. This is not only to make your guitar look good. It is to keep your guitar from damages. Whatever you do, do not use Pledge or some other polisher on it that is not meant for guitars.

- Carry it in a solid strong guitar case

Guitars can get damaged easily, so it is good to get a hard case to protect it from getting bumped, scratched and broken. Most the time people only focus on buying a nice and good quality guitar, but they ignore the important factor of how they are going to keep it protected, especially if you are going to take it to places. I always say to stay away from soft cases, they don't do any good. You should get a case at the same time as you get your guitar, so there would be no way of getting damages on it from the moment you bought it.

- Replacing the guitar strings

You should know that it is very important to change strings on your guitar to keep the sound good. If you play your guitar all the time then you would need to change your strings every two to three months. You may notice that new strings are a little harder to play at first because you didn't brake them in.

- Try to keep it at same temperature

Wood actually expands if it's exposed to cold weather and hot temperatures. Keeping it in a case when moving it helps to keep the temperature at a good lever. You have to almost think of a guitar as a living thing. You need to understand that wood reacts to hot and cold.

The tips mentioned above will help to prolong the life of your guitar. Anybody can do this and it is not that hard. If you haven't been doing anything to care for your guitar it is never too late to start. Each tip is different and can help your guitar stay in shape in a different way. Even the most beautiful guitar in the world will not look good when it is dirty, and if will not do you any good if it is warped either. As soon as you get you awesome acoustic guitar, that is when it is time to care for it.
