Mobile affiliate marketing, you've heard it's hot and you want to give it a go.

Where do you start and what do you really know?

The latter is usually one of the first questions asked of affiliates when they join a mobile CPA network - what is your experience with affiliate marketing?

Of course, you could try giving me a generic answer you learned from a course on marketing CPA offers. Chances are, if you go that route and you really do not have experience, the network will most likely discover it with other questions they ask you. We are all in business here and it is in all of our best interests to be real with each other. Businesses are built at the speed of trust.

Now, the answer to the other question - where do you start with mobile marketing?

Well, your answer would begin with your affiliate marketing experience. An affiliate just starting out has a lot longer way to go than an affiliate who has solid experience on the desktop web. Many of the same principles that apply to marketing CPA offers on the desktop web, also apply to marketing offers on the mobile web.

So, no matter what level you are on, the best place to start is to understand the target audience for which the offer is targeted.

For example, if you are marketing an offer that matches colleges to a person's interests... your message would click with a stay at home mom who reads an ad stating something like: "College for stay at home moms here"

A stay at home mom may be a lot less likely to click a generically targeted ad that reads: "Get your college education here"

When you read the first ad and you are a stay at home mom, you instantly get that this ad is for you if you are looking to go to college.

Another key point for mobile affiliate marketing is to have enough of a budget to test offers and scale the offer out once you find a proven winner.

All too many times an affiliate will spend $50 because they had 200 clicks and 0 conversions and have no idea what happened. Most of the time when that happens, behind the mindset was an urge to hit it out of the park on their first try.

A good rule of thumb is to pick an offer (the more you can afford to test at once the better) and run a small amount of test traffic to the offer. After running traffic, analyze the data you received to optimize the campaign going forward.

Hint: While AdMob is a great mobile ad network, other mobile ad networks exist on which to run mobile CPA offers.

Split testing ad copy is another good rule of thumb because without testing, how will you know what works and what does not work?

Hint #2: Treat your initial tests as feedback and realize you didn't "do anything wrong" or "fail" You now have a starting point with which to move forward.
