subject: A Guide To Storing Extra Butane Fuel For Your Lighter [print this page]

For cigar smokers, there is no better fuel to ignite their lighter with than butane. Butane is designed with little to no smell and no taste. This design allows for butane to light cigars and to not have any effect on the taste of the tobacco. For all cigar smokers, this is an invaluable characteristic that is required for any enjoyable smoking experience to occur. As a result of butane's high popularity, cigar smokers are regularly trying to determine how to store butane for a lighter.

Given that most butane lighters are refillable, it has become a financially sound decision for cigar smokers to store butane at home. This allows the cigar smoker the ability to refill their lighter whenever they need. By following a few steps, a cigar smoker can ensure that they are able to safely store their butane in an area that can be reached easily.

The first step in finding a safe place for a cigar smoker's butane is to exclude areas of the home that can be accessed by small children and pets. Butane is toxic and highly flammable. As children and pets tend to get into mischief, it is better to keep the butane in an area of the home that is high or a storage area that is locked.

Another vital storage requirement is that the butane be stored in an area where it is not exposed to a nearby flame. Placing a butane canister near any flame source is extremely dangerous as even a slight puncture in the canister could cause a flame to be ignited. Areas surrounding wood stoves, kitchen burners and fireplaces should be avoided at all times. Even if a flame is not exposed, a flames heat could be enough to ignite the butane. Due to this risk, it is a safe procedure to store butane in a cool area such as a basement or other low traffic room. It is important however, if stored in an unused or low used space, that you store the butane in an area that is easily accessible to you.

One of the great things about butane lighters is that they are very reliable and generally very safe. The same extends to the fuel that you use for them. Make sure you always buy a high-quality brand of fuel and make sure you check the adapter so that you know it's clean and free of obstructions before you do refuel your lighters.
