However, one couldn't be more wrong. That is, when it involves the relational dynamics of the older woman and younger man.
You see, the term "reproduction expediting" is scientific proof, according to Psychology Today, that Mrs Robinson is actually Miss Right. And that, my friends, is good news to me!
In fact, an article by a similar name goes so far as to say that Benjamin (the character played by Dustin Hoffman, who, incidentally, was 30 to Ann Bancroft's 36 at the time of filming)makes the wrong decision.
Roger Ebert, a prominent film critic, puts it like this: "Seen today, "The Graduate'' is a movie about a young man of limited interest, who gets a chance to sleep with the ranking babe in his neighbourhood, and throws it away in order to marry her dorky daughter."
So, what exactly is this "reproduction expediting" thing? There are, in fact three groups that women fall into, the first being "pre-reproduction expediting", then "reproduction expediting", followed by "menopausal". The first group consists of women aged between 18 and 26, the second consists of women aged between 27 and 45, and the latter, 46 and up.
It's also a well known fact that younger men tend to have the same sex drive as older women, whereas younger women tend to be more sexually compatible with the often waning drives generally found in older men.
This may "seem" pretty backwards in whole scheme of things, but I say, if it works, work it! Here's to you, Mrs Robinson...
