subject: Designing Dresses For Girls That Fit Perfectly [print this page]

A lot of people sew dresses for girls for their little ones following patterns that are produced. The patter that you purchase tells you what materials are best to use to make the outfit, and they tell you what additional sewing notions you will need. These sewing notions include the buttons, the zippers, the lace, the bias tape, and any ornamental adornments. These outfits are fun to sew and create but eventually some of these seamstresses will begin to want to create new patterns for kids clothing.

The main reason to design dresses for girls is so that the little one that you sew for can have something unique that every other child in town does not have. Some women make the fashion garments and they sell their talents by making the outfits for other children.

In order to create dresses for girls that fit perfectly, the person sewing the outfit will have to have the exact measurements of the child so they can ascertain the sizes of the pieces of the pattern. They will need to know the height of the child, the measurement around their waist, the measurement around the largest part of their chest, the distance between their chest and the natural line of their waist, and they need to know the length of the childs arms.

To design dresses for girls the seamstress measures the arm length so that sleeves fit the wearer correctly. In order to make these measurements they use a soft measuring tape, and they start the measurement at the center of the neck at the back of the person they are measuring. They then stretch the tape to the elbow of the individual and hold the tape in place while they have the individual bend their arm so that they form what looks like a chicken wing and can touch their nose with their index finger. Then the seamstress will measure from the elbow to the wrist. This gives an accurate length so the person can bend their arms and move their arms and shoulders in the dresses for girls the seamstress is creating.

When creating clothing for girls you have to keep in mind what the person wearing the outfit will move like. Sometimes the patterns have to take into account the bending movements and the sitting and standing the person will do. With these things in mind the tailor can design the outfit to move with the child and be comfortable to wear.

Designing dresses for girls takes a little sewing skill, a little artistic talent, and a lot of measurements.
