subject: Storage Units For All Year Long Cleaning [print this page]

Spring is always associated with spring cleaning. We're no longer cooped up in the house, forced to stay inside because of old man winter. It's the time of year to throw open the windows, let in the fresh air and sunshine, and brush out all the dust, dirt, and extra stuff we've accumulated. I guess we feel like we must be like other animals and hoard random items and hibernate. So with spring, comes a new beginning and the usage of storage units.

While this is all well and good, maybe we should get out of the habit of cleaning once a year. It's not that we never clean the home the rest of the year, but we save the big task of sorting out all our junk for but once a year. Why? Mainly because we hate doing it. There are only a few of us, myself included, who actually get a kick out of cleaning and purging. But if we did it multiple times a year, the task wouldn't be so daunting each spring! If we tackle one room or a section of a room every few weeks, it can turn a large task into a small one. Cleaning will be not nearly as large of a feat.

Start by renting a storage unit to make the job easier. Throw out what you can or donate items that you feel are still usable. A garage sale is always a great idea, but that will actually have to wait for the warmer weather. Maybe you can make a spot in the storage unit to put all the items you want to sell. And as time passes and you routinely clean out your house, you can easily build up a nice collection to sell and hopefully you will receive a nice profit when all is said and done.

Look for items that you may want to use again and place them in the storage unit. It's also the perfect option to save room in your home. Take any seasonal items and place them in the unit as well. This will create so much extra space when you do not have tons of sweaters and skiing equipment lying around during the summer. It just doesn't make sense to keep those items around during the warmer months.

Tackle a little bit at a time and maybe you'll find that cleaning out the home isn't so bad. While spring is certainly coming up, don't let it be the only time you dust off the shelves and purge the house.
