subject: Delivery Of Shipment To A Post Office Box [print this page]

Before the beginning of the courier business, every individual or business use post office boxes for sending or receiving their packages or shipment. It was a location that was rented by the consumers known as P.O. Box with a specific address. The customer has to go to the P.O. Box location to receive or send their mail or packages. In those days, this was the only method of sending or receiving packages and there was no alternative.

Nowadays, people do not prefer using the post offices for their deliveries, instead more efficient and reliable way of sending and receiving packages has been provided by messenger service in Chicago. However, there are still people who are not able to utilize the courier deliver services and need to use the post office boxes. Such people have a concern if the courier delivery companies send shipment or packages to the post office box.

Most of the companies including messenger service in Chicago do not send shipment to the P.O. Box since it is not included in their company policies due to many reasons. One of the main reasons that courier companies do not provide this service is that there are security issues and risks involved in sending the package to a P.O. Box. It does not have a complete address and the package is not received by the actual receiver. Instead, a person comes later to the post office to receive package. Also, there is no signature of the receiving person to ensure that the package has reached safely. Therefore, there are numerous chances and possibilities that the package might get lost or misplaced.

In addition, it is also not possible to send packages of all sizes using the post office box since it is a small box with the capacity of containing a few envelopes. People would want to deliver the packages of various sizes and weight and this could become a cause of limitation. Additional costs are required for acquiring more space of the post office boxes.

Safety is the main cause that courier delivery companies are not providing the services to send the packages or shipment to the post office box. On the other hand, some companies might be able to provide these services by handing over the packages to the postal office service. People living in areas where courier services are not yet provided need the delivery services to P.O. Boxes.
