subject: How To Package A Parcel Correctly [print this page]

When sending a parcel you always need to make sure you properly package it to ensure it stays in the best of condition when being delivered. The last thing the recipient of your parcel will want is for their parcel to arrive in a damaged state, and this could end up putting you out of pocket if the contents of your parcel are also damaged.

If you are sending something that holds special significance to you, you will need to make sure you package it securely and clearly write the address on the packet. It is also important that you include a return address, as the delivery company may not be able to ship your parcel and will therefore need to send it back to you. Without a known return address your parcel would simply be kept by the delivery company, meaning neither you nor the recipient of your parcel would receive it.

When packaging your deliverables you should always use the proper delivery items rather than opting for makeshift ones and you should ensure you use new ones rather than reusing boxes or packets that you have saved from previous deliveries. You can buy these items online and should look out for parcel tape, jiffy bags, bubblewrap and sticky labels that you can use for addressing your parcel.

If you are sending a bulky item, choose a parcel box rather than a jiffy bag as this will be better suited. Place some bubblewrap in the bottom of the box to ask as cushioning material and then put your item in the centre. Fill the sides with bubblewrap until your item is completely secure and wont move around during delivery. Then close the top of the box and seal the flaps with parcel tape you may also want to strengthen the bottom of the box in this way.

When addressing your parcel you should be careful to use the correct spelling and, if handwriting the address; always use block capitals that are easy to read. Those that are sending parcels overseas will need to be especially careful to make sure they spell the street name correctly. Mark your delivery and return address as such to avoid confusion and remember to include the proper customs documents if you are delivering outside of the European Union.

Carrying out these measures will help to keep your parcel safe when being delivered and if you use a professional courier company you will ensure your parcel arrives on time and in good condition.
