Rajesh Bothra was born in Mumbai 1968 but now living and running his business from Singapore. He is CEO of Kobian, IT company with yearly turnover of over S$300 million with plans to reach 2 billion this year.
Realizing that studying won't help to find well paid job he decided to quit studies and start his own business when he was only 16. With small amount he had in his hands, even he had financial security within his family, he started own business and only 2 years later his earnings were 25,000 rupees per day. But his dreams were bigger and he wanted more from life. That's why he started to travel often to Singapore and after some time realized that Singapore offering better ground for business people which he couldn't have in India where business people have to face a number of obstacles daily. That was the reason for moving business to Singapore right after he married his wife Rashmi 1991 and to build his home there. He found Singapore very similar to India and very safe and good place to raise a family and operate a business.
One year later he managed to become equal partner in Kobain, well known IT company owned by Mr. Nikhil Shah. Right after that they expanded company and from a half million million yearly turnover company grew to S$300 million. The company has three factories these days, one in China and two in India with a number of products sold under brand Mercury. This brand doesn't have any competition at the moment because of the wide range of their products.
The Kobain has three factories, one in China and two in India. Factories in India have around 800 people employed and products coming out of factories range from keyboards, notebooks, DVD players, power supplies, motherboards, monitors and so much more. These factories produce over 300 different models of 160 products. The Kobain has plans to make one more such factory in Eastern Europe, probably in Polland or Czechoslovakia and to soon make yearly turnover of S$2 billion. Products are sold across India, Europe, Middle East and US and depending from country rules of sale are different. US products are sold to merchants, in the Middle East to dealers and in India directly to distributors. Quality of Mercury products ranked Kobain in top world IT companies side by side with IBM, Intel and Compaq.
Rajesh found encouragement in his parents and after they died his biggest support became his wife Rashmi who helped him to follow his dreams. He decided to continue his studies after so many years giving an example to his children that no matter person is successful in business education is priority and important. Rajesh said that continuing studies will help him in his business, engagement policies and management and also prevent his children, son Harsha and daughter Divya from making thesame mistake and quitting studies.
No matter his home is in Singapore Rajesh is still attached to India and his charity work there showing his love to India and people there. Every year provision of his profit going for food that is provided to 200,000 people in 20 cities in India. His plan is to provide same to people in Cambodia and Africa spreading his charity work there.
