subject: First Believe, then Succeed [print this page] An important precondition for achieving your dreams is believing that you can accomplish that dream. No one else can dream for you. No one else can believe for you. It is entirely in your hands. It is the thoughts that we hold clearly and consistently in our minds over a prolonged period of time that eventually mature into our beliefs beliefs about ourselves, our view of the world and what we believe is possible or impossible. These beliefs in turn impact what we do, what we do not do, what we give up on even before we start and what we are able to follow through to accomplishment.
Unstoppable achievers get to be that way by developing an unflinching and unwavering belief in themselves and their ability to achieve their goals or find solutions to their challenges. They are cognisant of the fact that self-limiting or I cant do it beliefs will not get them anywhere and are merely excuses. They remind themselves constantly if other have accomplished great dreams in spite of unspeakable odds so can they. They realise that for others to believe in them, they would first have to believe in themselves. They do not hang on to their past failures but instead view such failures as learning opportunities to do things differently in future and learn more about themselves.
They know that it is better to have tried and failed and learnt from it than never having tried at all.
Unstoppable achievers become that way intentionally. They constantly cultivate positive thoughts of themselves and their abilities over time until those thoughts have become hardwired in their minds and created an ingrained positive self image. Unstoppable achievers allow only the burning desire to accomplish their goals to fuel their belief in themselves and know that if they can envision the dream, by applying themselves 110%, they can realise the dream. They do not allow other peoples opinions, comments and beliefs to distract them. They maintain a laser-like focus on their goals and throw themselves at it with undaunted confidence.
The thing though about confidence is this on the journey to accomplishing our goals, we will all experience some setback or another and our confidence levels take a knock. But remember thats all they are setbacks, delays, hindrances and nothing else.
Unfortunately, many interpret such temporary difficulties as the end of their dreams; they now believe that the goal is too hard to reach. They lose confidence and give up, oftentimes, when they have progressed quite far in the journey and are much closer to their dreams than they realise. This is why having a written down goal and strategy is important. Whenever your confidence takes a knock, relook at the benefits of achieving the goal, visualise in your mind how great it would feel having achieved it and remind yourself of how your life and the lives of your loved ones would be different if you didnt achieve your goal.
This type of thinking will create a resilient form of confidence in you and when it becomes a habit, you will find yourself automatically getting up and pressing on whenever you encounter temporary obstacles along the way (and you will!).
