The price of Kindle fire in India is INR 14,999 (almost ~$300), though the official price (in US) is $199.

Amazon Kindle Fire is a stylish tablet equipped with a large 7 inches multi-touch display with IPS Panel and a resolution of 1024x600 pixels and is powered by 1Ghz dual core processor and runs on Android 2.3 OS. It sports a Music player with 3.5mm audio jack and stereo speakers, video player, 512MB RAM and 8GB internal memory. It offers connectivity options like Wi-Fi and USB and is Amazon Silk browser enabled for fast browsing. It supports e mail, e book reader, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Amazon Appstore for thousands of popular apps and games and Free Cloud Storage for amazon content. It features durable design, instant streaming of over 10,000 popular movies and TV shows and a strong battery with up to 8 hours of continuous reading or 7.5 hours of video playback.

Look & Feel

The Kindle Fire supports a colour touch screen and looks a lot like the BlackBerry Playbook. The bezel around the display is thick and there are no hardware buttons on the front. The Kindle Fire has a rubberized back and gives a good grip. However it is not ideal in summers as due to sweating the tablet tends to slip around more. Of you keep the tablet face down on the desk you will see kindle clearly engraved on the device and the Amazon logo is also highlighted as well.

On the bottom spine you will have the power key, micro USB port and the 3.5mm headphone jack while on the top there are stereo speakers. The device has a good built with a premium feel to it and that makes the device expensive compared to the other devices available.

Features & Performance

The Kindle Fire offers the same package and features as the BlackBerry PlayBook powered with the 1GHz Cortex A9 on the TI OMAP 4430 chipset and supports Power VR SGX540 graphics. The Blackberry Playbook offers multi-tasking capabilities and has a customized version of Android 2.3.

The tablet supports a very unique and eye catching user interface with a shelf design. It has a bigger middle shelf for recent items and below that you will find the favorites column. If you flick through the Album Cover you feel as if you are going through an iOS device. On the top is the search bar and below that you will find tabs for Newsstand, Books, Music, Video, Docs, Apps and Web. If you select any one you will end on a separate layer of screens.

It supports a 7-inch IPS display with vivid colours, crisp text and multimedia alike. We like the web browsing experience and found the web browser neat and the latest update brings full screen browsing as well. It supports 8GB of internal storage but has no slot for memory expansion.

The Kindle Fire in India is an excellent device and if you sign in with your Amazon account you will find that all the ebooks purchased by you will immediately sync. If you go to the Amazon app store and search for apps you will be unable to do so if you dont have a U.S. credit card linked to the account.

Even after 3 days of charging the battery was just down by 85% even when connected to the Wi-Fi for web browsing as well as online gaming, You Tube videos and a lot of ebook reading. Under the tests, the battery lasted for 9 hours.
